Bluff City, TN - 2 Killed, 3 Injured in Crash on US 11E

Posted by Local Accidents | Jul 17, 2025 | 0 Comments

Bluff City, TN (July 17, 2025) – A violent wrong-way crash on U.S. Route 11E Tuesday night left two people dead and three others injured, including two juveniles, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP). The wreck occurred near Rock Lane in Bluff City and resulted in emergency crews shutting down sections of the highway for hours.

The incident unfolded on the night of July 15, when a 2005 Honda Element was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 11E. According to the THP report, the Honda collided in an offset head-on manner with a 2021 Kia Sorento that was properly traveling westbound. The force of the collision left both vehicles facing in opposite directions on the highway, with the Honda resting in the right westbound lane and the Kia stopped in the left lane.

Tragically, the crash claimed the life of the Honda driver, 45-year-old Robert Eubanks. Additionally, a passenger in the Kia, identified as 46-year-old Charlie Shepherd, also died from injuries sustained in the wreck. While initial reports had listed Shepherd among the injured, authorities later confirmed his death.

The Kia's driver and two passengers, both juveniles, sustained injuries in the crash. They were transported to area hospitals for treatment. At this time, the extent of their injuries has not been made public.

Emergency crews, including Bluff City police, firefighters, and paramedics, worked late into the night to investigate the scene, assist victims, and clear the roadway. Westbound lanes were closed for a significant period as officials pieced together the events leading up to the crash.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident to determine what led the Honda to enter the westbound lanes in the wrong direction. No additional details have been released.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Our sympathies are with the families of the victims who lost their lives in this crash.

Fatal Car Accidents in Tennessee

Bluff City, TN - 2 Killed, 3 Injured in Crash on US 11E

Car accidents in Tennessee result in hundreds of deaths each year, with head-on collisions among the most dangerous types of crashes. In 2023, Tennessee recorded over 1,300 traffic fatalities, with wrong-way crashes accounting for a disproportionate number of those deaths. Factors such as impaired driving, distraction, and driver error frequently play a role.

Understanding how wrong-way collisions affect families helps highlight the seriousness of these events. Here are some common results of this kind of crash:

  • Wrong-Way Driving Dangers: When a vehicle travels against the flow of traffic, the chances of a head-on collision rise sharply. These incidents often occur at high speeds, leaving occupants with little time to react or avoid impact. Wrong-way crashes tend to result in more severe injuries and fatalities than other types of accidents.
  • Common Injuries in Head-On Collisions: Victims of head-on crashes often suffer traumatic brain injuries, broken bones, internal bleeding, and spinal cord damage. Recovery from these injuries can be lengthy, painful, and costly, particularly for children who may require long-term rehabilitation.
  • Emotional Trauma for Families: Surviving victims and their families frequently face emotional turmoil following a fatal crash. In addition to grief and loss, they may experience post-traumatic stress, especially in cases involving children.
  • Financial Burdens After a Serious Wreck: From medical bills and funeral expenses to lost income and ongoing therapy, the aftermath of a deadly crash often places a significant financial strain on victims and families. Legal support may help ease some of that burden through compensation claims.
