Chattanooga, TN (February 13, 2025) – A head-on collision in Chattanooga left one man dead on Monday evening, February 10.
Chattanooga police officers responded to the 2900 block of Hickory Street at approximately 6:55 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash. Upon arrival, they discovered a two-vehicle accident involving a 2005 Jeep Liberty and a 2001 Honda Accord.
According to authorities, the Jeep was heading north on Hickory Street when it suddenly crossed into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with the Honda. The driver of the Accord, a 49-year-old man, suffered severe injuries. Paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later passed away. The driver and passenger of the Jeep did not report any injuries at the scene.
Investigators from the Chattanooga Police Department's Traffic Unit responded to analyze the circumstances of the crash. Their preliminary findings suggest the victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of impact. Authorities are still working to determine what caused the Jeep to veer into oncoming traffic.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man who lost his life in this accident.
Fatal Car Accidents in Tennessee

Tennessee sees thousands of serious car accidents each year, many of which result in tragic fatalities. According to state data, more than 1,300 people lose their lives in crashes annually. A significant portion of these accidents involve head-on collisions, which often lead to severe or fatal injuries due to the force of impact.
Understanding what leads to these accidents can help prevent future tragedies. Some common causes of fatal head-on crashes include:
- Lane Departures – When a driver drifts into oncoming traffic, either due to distraction, fatigue, or impairment, the risk of a head-on collision increases significantly.
- Speeding – Excessive speed reduces reaction time and increases the severity of injuries in a crash.
- Failure to Wear Seatbelts – Seatbelt use significantly lowers the risk of severe injury or death in an accident. Not wearing one can have fatal consequences, as seen in this incident.
- Impaired Driving – Alcohol or drug impairment can cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles and make poor decisions on the road.
- Poor Visibility or Road Conditions – Adverse weather, low lighting, and poorly maintained roads can all contribute to serious accidents.
