Chattanooga, TN (November 2, 2025) – Authorities in Chattanooga are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Friday, October 31, along Moore Road near Old Mission Road, close to Brainerd High School. According to initial information released by local officials, the crash resulted in the deaths of two individuals after their vehicle was struck by an intoxicated driver.

Reports indicate that a 20-year-old motorist was operating his vehicle at a high rate of speed along the 600 block of Moore Road when the collision occurred. Investigators believe the driver lost control while navigating a curve, causing his vehicle to cross into oncoming traffic and strike another car carrying the couple. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles.

Emergency medical personnel and police officers responded to the scene shortly after the crash was reported. Despite efforts to provide life-saving aid, both occupants of the struck vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene. The 20-year-old driver was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and later taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The roadway was closed for several hours as officers conducted an on-site investigation, collected physical evidence, and interviewed witnesses. The Chattanooga Police Department’s Traffic Division is continuing to examine the crash to determine contributing factors such as vehicle speed, roadway conditions, and impairment.

Our deepest sympathies are extended to the victims' families and loved ones during this challenging time.

Fatal DUI Collisions in Chattanooga

Fatal crashes caused by impaired drivers remain a serious public safety concern throughout Chattanooga and the broader Hamilton County area. Roads such as Moore Road, which feature multiple curves and connect to heavily traveled routes near schools and residential neighborhoods, can become particularly dangerous when drivers operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Two Killed in Suspected DUI Collision on Moore Rd Near Old Mission Rd

According to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, alcohol-impaired driving contributes to hundreds of fatal collisions across the state each year. Young drivers, particularly those under 25, represent a disproportionately high percentage of these incidents. Even a single poor decision behind the wheel can have irreversible consequences for multiple families and communities.

In Tennessee, it is illegal to operate a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher. Drivers under the age of 21 are subject to even stricter standards, with lower allowable BAC limits and enhanced penalties for violations. When a DUI-related crash results in a fatality, the driver can face severe criminal charges, including vehicular homicide.

For the families affected by such tragedies, the aftermath can be overwhelming. Beyond the emotional toll, survivors often face financial hardships related to funeral expenses, loss of income, and other damages. Under Tennessee law, surviving relatives may pursue a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for these losses and hold negligent parties accountable.

Legal representation can play an essential role in ensuring that evidence is preserved and the family's rights are fully protected. A qualified wrongful death lawyer can guide families through the process of filing claims, negotiating settlements, and pursuing justice through civil court proceedings when necessary.
