Hartsville, TN (December 19, 2024) – A serious collision involving a church bus carrying children and a tractor-trailer hauling cattle shut down Highway 25 West in Trousdale County Wednesday evening, December 18. The crash occurred at approximately 5:21 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 25 West and Sulphur College Road.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the church bus, which was carrying 14 children and its driver, had stopped at a stop sign on Sulphur College Road before pulling onto Highway 25. As the bus moved forward, it was struck on the right front side by a semi-truck tractor-trailer. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to overturn, spilling its cargo of cattle and blocking the roadway.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where multiple people, including at least one child, were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.  Investigations into the accident are currently underway.

Bus Accidents in Tennessee

Hartsville, TN - Church Bus Collides with Tractor-Trailer on Hwy 25 W

Accidents involving large vehicles such as buses or tractor-trailers can cause severe and life-altering injuries, especially when children are involved. These heavy vehicles, due to their size and weight, create a greater risk of catastrophic damage during collisions.

In Tennessee, these accidents often take place due to a variety of factors, including misjudged distances, failure to yield at intersections, driver fatigue, poorly maintained vehicles, and the challenges of maneuvering on narrow or winding rural roads. These conditions increase the likelihood of devastating outcomes for victims.

Injuries commonly sustained in these accidents include fractures, head trauma, internal injuries, whiplash, and spinal damage. Victims of these crashes may endure long and painful recovery periods, requiring ongoing medical treatments, therapies, and surgeries. The financial toll can also be overwhelming, with mounting medical bills, lost wages, and future care expenses, creating additional stress for victims and their families.
