Knoxville, TN (September 23, 2025) – A man died Monday morning, September 22, in a collision between a Jeep SUV and a tractor trailer on Asheville Highway, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

The crash occurred around 9 a.m. in the 7200 block of Asheville Highway. Investigators said the tractor trailer had stopped to make a left turn and remained partially in the travel lane. The Jeep, traveling west, struck the rear of the trailer with significant force.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene. Crews worked to clear the wreckage and reopen the roadway, while police directed traffic and urged drivers to find alternate routes.

KPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal crash.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.

Tractor Trailer Crashes in Tennessee

1 Killed in Tractor Trailer Crash on Asheville Hwy

Collisions involving tractor trailers are often devastating because of the size and weight of these commercial vehicles. Even at moderate speeds, the impact of a passenger vehicle colliding with a semi-truck can be catastrophic. In Knoxville and across Tennessee, truck accidents frequently occur on busy highways where high traffic volume and large vehicles share the road.

Rear-end collisions with trucks often happen when trailers extend into lanes of travel, especially when drivers attempt to turn across busy roads. These accidents can result in a wrongful death, as seen in this tragic case.

When families lose a loved one in a truck collision, they may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims can provide compensation for funeral costs, medical expenses, lost income, and emotional suffering. Tennessee law also allows families to hold trucking companies accountable when negligence contributes to a fatal accident.

Common causes of deadly truck accidents include:

  • Improper loading or unsecured cargo
  • Driver fatigue or distraction
  • Failure to use proper safety signals when turning
  • Hazardous roadway conditions

A skilled Knoxville truck accident attorney can investigate the crash, review accident reports, and work with experts to determine liability. Trucking companies and their insurers often fight hard to limit payouts, making legal representation essential for grieving families.
