Knoxville, TN - Crash on Chapman Hwy After Police Chase Ends in One Arrest

Posted by Local Accidents | Apr 21, 2025 | 0 Comments

Knoxville, TN (April 21, 2025) – A stolen vehicle pursuit led by Blount County deputies came to a chaotic end on April 19 when the fleeing car crashed at the intersection of Chapman Highway and Mountain Grove Drive in South Knox County, leaving at least one person hospitalized and the driver of the stolen vehicle in custody.

The chase began earlier in the day after deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle on Old Knoxville Highway near Sam Houston School Road. When the vehicle refused to stop, a high-speed chase ensued through Blount County and into Knox County. The pursuit ultimately concluded near the South Grove shopping center, where the suspect vehicle collided with another car.

Several law enforcement agencies were involved in the pursuit, including Blount County and Knox County Sheriff's Offices, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and EMS teams. After the crash, EMS crews responded swiftly to the scene. One woman from the other vehicle involved in the crash was transported to the hospital with injuries.

Three individuals were inside the stolen vehicle. While the driver was arrested and is now facing multiple charges, the two passengers were not charged and were released at the scene. All three were checked by AMR personnel but did not require further medical attention.

Chapman Highway experienced traffic delays for some time following the crash. Authorities have since reopened the roadway. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is currently leading the investigation into the collision and the events leading up to it.

We hope the woman injured in this accident makes a full and swift recovery.

Car Accidents in Tennessee

Knoxville, TN - Crash on Chapman Hwy After Police Chase Ends in One Arrest

Tennessee sees thousands of motor vehicle accidents each year, many of which result in serious injuries. According to data from the Tennessee Department of Safety, over 175,000 crashes occurred statewide last year, with more than 48,000 involving injuries. These numbers highlight the ongoing risks drivers face across the state.

Understanding what victims often endure following an accident is key. Here are common types of injuries reported in vehicle collisions:

  • Whiplash and Neck Injuries: Neck injuries such as whiplash are among the most reported after rear-end or high-speed crashes. The sudden jolt can strain muscles and ligaments, causing pain, stiffness, and mobility issues that may last weeks or even months.
  • Concussions and Head Trauma: The impact of a crash can cause a victim's head to strike a surface inside the vehicle, leading to concussions or other head injuries. These can affect memory, concentration, and even personality changes if not properly treated.
  • Broken Bones and Fractures: Fractures are common in car accidents, especially in arms, legs, and ribs. Recovery often involves casting, physical therapy, and time away from work, which can create financial and emotional strain.
  • Internal Injuries: Even when no external wounds are visible, internal injuries like organ damage or internal bleeding can be serious or fatal if left undiagnosed. These injuries require immediate medical evaluation after any high-impact crash.
  • Emotional and Psychological Trauma: Beyond physical injuries, many victims suffer emotional consequences such as anxiety, PTSD, or depression after a traumatic car crash. Psychological recovery may require therapy or counseling.
