Motorcycle Accidents in Tennessee

Knoxville, TN – One Killed in Crash on Green Estates Way

Motorcycle accidents in Tennessee continue to take a toll on riders and their families every year. According to the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security, hundreds of motorcyclists are killed or injured annually in crashes across the state. These incidents often result in catastrophic outcomes due to the lack of physical protection for riders compared to occupants of passenger vehicles.

When it comes to motorcycle accidents, it's important to understand some of the contributing factors and long-term effects involved:

  • Visibility Issues: Many motorcycle crashes occur because drivers fail to see motorcyclists. Due to their smaller size, motorcycles can easily end up in a vehicle's blind spots. Riders are often hit while changing lanes or turning.
  • Injury Severity: Injuries from motorcycle crashes tend to be more serious. Common injuries include broken bones, spinal cord damage, and traumatic brain injuries, which may require long-term medical care and rehabilitation.
  • Road Hazards: Debris, potholes, and uneven pavement can be hazardous for motorcycles. What might be a minor bump for a car could be life-threatening for a motorcyclist.
  • Lack of Protective Gear: Riders not wearing appropriate safety gear, such as helmets or reinforced clothing, are at significantly greater risk of fatal injuries.
  • Driver Negligence: Distracted driving, speeding, or failure to yield are common causes behind crashes involving motorcycles. Even a brief lapse in attention can result in a deadly outcome.
