Knoxville, TN (February 15, 2026) – Three people were injured on Friday, February 13, after firefighters responded to a reported house fire in East Knoxville. The incident occurred in the 2100 block of Linden Avenue and prompted a rapid response from the Knoxville Fire Department.

According to officials, a 911 call was received at approximately 9:50 p.m. reporting a fire at the residence. The caller, who was identified as a neighbor, informed dispatchers that the home was believed to be vacant. Fire crews were dispatched immediately and arrived on the scene within minutes.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed active flames and began suppression efforts. The Knoxville Fire Department reported that crews were able to bring the fire under control shortly after reaching the property. Their swift response helped prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures and limited additional property damage.

Despite initial reports suggesting the home may have been vacant, authorities confirmed that three people were inside the residence at the time of the fire. All three sustained injuries.

Two of the injured victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening. Officials have not released the identities of those involved.

Law enforcement officials have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire. Additional information may be released once the investigation is completed.  The investigation remains ongoing.

Our best wishes are with those injured, and we hope for a swift and complete recovery.

What is the biggest cause of residential fires in Knoxville?

The biggest cause of residential fires is accidental ignition, most commonly related to unattended cooking, electrical malfunctions, and improper use of heating equipment. Electrical faults, overloaded circuits, and damaged wiring frequently contribute to structure fires, especially in older or vacant properties where maintenance may be inconsistent.

Additionally, unauthorized occupancy or trespassing in vacant homes can increase the risk of accidental fires due to makeshift heating sources or unsafe activity.

House fires can result in serious injuries, including burns, smoke inhalation, respiratory damage, and trauma sustained while attempting to exit the building. Smoke inhalation in particular can pose significant health risks, even when burns are not severe.

Victims may require hospitalization, oxygen therapy, or ongoing medical treatment depending on the severity of exposure.

Beyond physical injuries, residential fires can create substantial financial hardship. Medical expenses, temporary housing needs, property loss, and lost personal belongings can quickly become overwhelming.

Insurance claims related to fire damage may also require extensive documentation and evaluation.

Those injured in residential fires may have legal options to support their recovery. If a fire was caused by negligence, defective equipment, or unsafe property conditions, injured victims may be able to pursue compensation for medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, and other related damages.
