Loudon County, TN (December 2, 2025) - A deadly crash on Monday, December 1, shut down a major stretch of Interstate 40 East in Loudon County. The Loudon County Sheriff's Office said the wreck happened near mile marker 366 and was reported around 6:41 p.m. Multiple agencies responded to the scene after dispatchers received calls about a serious collision.

Cpl. Cody Bengel with the sheriff's office confirmed that one person died as a result of the crash. Emergency crews arrived quickly and began working to assist those involved and secure the area. Because of the severity of the incident, officials closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate 40. They also shut down one westbound lane to give responders room to work safely. As of about 7:55 p.m., those closures still remained in place while crews cleared debris and gathered evidence.

Authorities have not released details about how the crash happened. They have not said how many vehicles were involved or what factors led up to the fatal impact. Law enforcement continues to investigate the incident.
