Marlow, TN (September 4, 2025) – A woman was seriously injured early Monday morning, September 1, after being struck by a vehicle in a crash on Haney Hollow Road, according to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies reported that around 1:18 a.m., 37-year-old Wanda S. Phillips of Clinton was standing by the roadside with a man when a van suddenly swerved toward them. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Timothy Lee Black, Jr., accelerated directly into Phillips. She was thrown into a fence and suffered severe injuries.

The man with her managed to escape unharmed. Two passengers were in the van at the time. Black fled on foot but was arrested hours later.

Phillips was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where she underwent surgery. 

Black faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident. His bond was set at $250,000.

Authorities continue to investigate this violent incident.
