Morgan Co., TN (July 5, 2025) – A multi-vehicle accident along Knoxville Highway in Morgan County claimed two lives and left others injured on the morning of July 3. The crash occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. in the 6400 block of Knoxville Highway, also known as Highway 62, near Back Valley Road by Middle Creek Church.

According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 2008 Honda CRV was traveling west on Knoxville Highway when, for reasons still under investigation, it crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a 2012 Ford E-450 van head-on. The Ford, which was carrying passengers from Life Care Center of Morgan County, veered off the road and down an embankment, coming to rest in the brush. The Honda also left the road and came to a stop on the westbound side.

Officials confirmed that the driver of the Honda, identified as Danielle Melton, 37, and a passenger in the Ford van, identified as Pamela Bane, 53, were pronounced dead at the scene. The Ford was transporting two residents and two staff members from Life Care Center of Morgan County who were on their way to medical appointments at the time of the crash. One resident lost their life while other occupants were evaluated at the scene and transported to local hospitals for further medical care. One passenger was reportedly unharmed.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office closed the highway for several hours while law enforcement and emergency crews responded and cleared the area. At 1:15 p.m., officials reopened Knoxville Highway to traffic. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.

We offer our sympathies to the families of the victims killed in this crash. We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Morgan Co., TN - Two Dead After Hwy 62 Crash Involving Life Care Center Van

Tennessee sees thousands of vehicle accidents each year, affecting people across urban and rural areas alike. According to the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security, crashes on highways like Knoxville Highway are common due to higher speeds and curves that can limit visibility. Drivers should stay alert and always obey traffic laws to help reduce their risk of being involved in a serious crash.

Drivers should keep these factors in mind to help stay safe on Tennessee roads:

  • Head-On Collisions: These types of crashes can be among the most severe due to the force of impact. Head-on accidents often result from lane departures caused by distraction, fatigue, or loss of control. Staying alert and maintaining lane position are crucial to avoiding these dangerous collisions.
  • Passenger Safety: Passengers, especially those with medical needs, are at risk of severe injuries in any vehicle collision. It is important for all occupants to wear seatbelts properly and for vehicles transporting patients or elderly residents to follow strict safety protocols.
  • Road Closures: Serious crashes often lead to extended road closures, causing delays and potential hazards for other drivers. Following detours and slowing down near crash scenes helps keep everyone safer.
  • Emergency Response: Quick action by emergency crews can make a major difference for accident victims. Accurate reporting and clear communication with dispatchers can help ensure people get medical attention faster.
  • Community Support: After a fatal or injury crash, families may need counseling or other assistance to cope with loss or recovery. Community organizations often play a key role in helping victims and loved ones during difficult times.

When crashes happen, victims and their families should have trusted support.
