Morgan Co., TN (June 28, 2025) – Authorities were called to the scene of an accident on Knoxville Highway in Morgan County when a motorcycle and a minivan collided head-on, leaving two people dead on June 24. The collision took place around 6:45 p.m., prompting a response from local law enforcement and emergency crews. Authorities say the minivan, driven by Scotty Allen Tinker, crossed the center line and crashed into an oncoming motorcycle carrying Angela F. Childress and Kevin J. Childress. Both victims sadly lost their lives at the scene.
After the impact, the minivan veered off the roadway and stopped uncontrollably. Shockingly, witnesses reported that Tinker, who had a child with him in the minivan, left the crash site and drove to a nearby store north of the accident. When law enforcement caught up with Tinker, they found that his driver's license had been revoked due to multiple DUI convictions in Anderson, Morgan, and Roane counties. Tinker now faces serious charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, child endangerment, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, and his eighth offense for driving with a revoked license.
While at Methodist Medical Center, Tinker admitted to hospital staff that he had consumed four wine coolers earlier that afternoon. Tests later revealed his blood alcohol content was .15 when he arrived at the hospital. Officers noted the smell of alcohol and poor performance during both a modified field sobriety test and a standard test once he was medically cleared. The incident remains under investigation.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and loved ones of Angela and Kevin Childress during this difficult time.
Motorcycle Accidents in Tennessee

Motorcycle accidents in Tennessee continue to be a serious concern for riders and motorists alike. According to recent state data, thousands of motorcycle crashes occur every year, often resulting in serious injury or loss of life. Riders are more exposed on the road, which means collisions often lead to severe consequences.
It's important to understand a few key facts about what makes these crashes so dangerous:
- Limited Protection: Unlike cars, motorcycles offer no physical barrier. Even with helmets and protective gear, riders are more likely to suffer severe injuries or fatalities in a collision.
- Visibility Challenges: Many crashes happen because drivers fail to see motorcyclists. Smaller size and blind spots increase the risk, especially at intersections or when changing lanes.
- Road Hazards: Debris, potholes, and slick roadways pose greater dangers for motorcycles. Riders must stay alert to changing conditions that can cause loss of control.
- Impaired Driving: Alcohol and drugs play a role in a significant number of fatal motorcycle crashes. Both riders and other drivers must avoid getting behind the wheel or handlebars when impaired.
- Speeding and Reckless Driving: Excessive speed and aggressive maneuvers can quickly turn deadly. Riders should stay within speed limits and practice defensive driving.
- Helmet Laws: Tennessee law requires helmets, which greatly reduce the risk of head injuries. Riders should always wear a DOT-approved helmet, even for short trips.
