Posted by Local Accidents | Aug 06, 2025 | 0 Comments

Murfreesboro, TN (August 6, 2025) – A 23-year-old woman lost her life Tuesday morning after being hit by a pickup truck while crossing the street in Murfreesboro.

The tragic incident occurred around 11:23 a.m. on August 5 at the intersection of Old Fort Parkway and New Salem Highway. Murfreesboro police initially closed the area to investigate the crash and reopened the roadways by 2 p.m. after the scene was cleared.

According to a preliminary investigation, the woman had been crossing Old Fort Parkway in a marked and signaled crosswalk when she was struck by a pickup truck. The vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old man, had been turning left from Golf Lane when it collided with the pedestrian in the intersection.

Emergency responders from the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services arrived quickly and provided aid at the scene. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, but she was later pronounced dead.

The teenage driver of the pickup truck was also transported to a hospital for observation. His current condition has not been disclosed. No charges have been announced at this time, but the Murfreesboro Police Department's Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is continuing to investigate. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from the area to determine the full sequence of events.

Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the woman killed in this heartbreaking accident.

Pedestrian Accidents in Tennessee

Murfreesboro, TN - Woman Fatally Struck in Crosswalk on Old Fort Pkwy

Crashes involving pedestrians are among the most heartbreaking, especially when they happen in areas designed for safe crossings. Below are key issues often linked to pedestrian incidents:

  • Crosswalk Collisions: Even when pedestrians follow traffic signals and use designated crosswalks, drivers who are turning may fail to yield. These mistakes can have fatal consequences, especially when the driver is inattentive or unfamiliar with the intersection.
  • Left-Hand Turns and Visibility: Left turns are among the most dangerous driving maneuvers. Drivers often focus on oncoming vehicles and may overlook pedestrians in their path, particularly at busy intersections with multiple lanes.
  • Urban Intersection Risks: Intersections like Old Fort Parkway and New Salem Highway are typically high-traffic areas with multiple lanes, turning options, and distractions. These complex layouts can make it harder for both drivers and pedestrians to see each other.
  • Driver Inexperience: Younger drivers may lack the situational awareness needed to navigate complex intersections safely. Mistakes made during turns or while scanning for traffic instead of pedestrians are common in cases involving teen drivers.
  • Ongoing Investigations and Legal Questions: It can take days or weeks to fully determine who is at fault in pedestrian crashes. Surveillance footage, witness statements, and crash reconstruction all play a role in assigning legal responsibility.
