Nashville, TN (December 12, 2025) – Metro investigators continue searching for answers after a deadly crash claimed the life of a cyclist late Tuesday night, December 9, along Nolensville Pike. Authorities say the incident involved a fleeing driver and resulted in a tragic loss of life.

According to investigators, the crash occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. near Burkitt Road. Officers reported that a blue Honda Civic struck a cyclist who was traveling northbound on Nolensville Pike. The cyclist, later identified as thirty-one-year-old Blaise Schaeffer of Nolensville, suffered severe injuries in the collision.

Emergency crews responded quickly and transported Schaeffer to TriStar Nolensville Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries.

Investigators stated that the Honda Civic involved had been speeding and driving erratically moments before the collision. Nolensville Police attempted to stop the vehicle shortly before the crash, but the driver refused to pull over and fled.

After striking the cyclist, the Honda became disabled near the intersection of Nolensville Pike and Concord Hills Drive. Officers said the driver then ran from the scene on foot.

Authorities continue working to identify and locate the driver responsible. The investigation remains active.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic loss.

Fatal Bicycle Accidents in Tennessee

Fatal Bicycle Crash on Nolensville Pike near Burkitt Rd

Fatal crashes involving cyclists often leave families facing sudden emotional and financial hardship. When a driver speeds, drives recklessly, or flees the scene, the consequences can become devastating. In cases like this, families may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim under Tennessee law.

Wrongful death claims aim to provide financial relief and accountability when negligence causes a loss of life. While no legal action can undo the harm, compensation can help families manage expenses and regain stability during an incredibly difficult time.

Possible compensation families may seek after a fatal bicycle crash includes:

  • Funeral and burial expenses, which often create immediate financial strain
  • Medical costs, covering emergency care provided before the victim passed away
  • Loss of income, including wages and future earnings the victim would have provided
  • Loss of companionship and support, recognizing the emotional impact on loved ones
  • Pain and suffering, related to the loss experienced by surviving family members
  • Loss of services, such as household or caregiving contributions

Each wrongful death case depends on the facts, available evidence, and the actions of the at-fault driver. Hit-and-run behavior and reckless driving may also affect how claims proceed. Acting promptly helps preserve evidence and protects important legal deadlines.

Speaking with a knowledgeable wrongful death attorney can help families understand their rights and options. Legal guidance can ease the burden of paperwork and communication while accountability moves forward.
