Nashville, TN (November 22, 2025) – A collision involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle shut down a section of Interstate 24 East in South Nashville on Friday, November 21, near the Thompson Lane and Briley Parkway interchange, leaving two occupants injured and prompting a multi-hour traffic closure.
According to information released by the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the crash happened at approximately 2:00 a.m. on the eastbound side of Interstate 24 at the interchange serving Thompson Lane and Briley Parkway. Initial reports indicate that a large tractor-trailer struck a white BMW sedan, causing heavy damage to the rear portion of the smaller vehicle.
Emergency crews and law enforcement responded to the scene and found the BMW with severe rear-end crumpling consistent with a high-force impact. Medical personnel evaluated those involved and arranged transport for the injured. The female passenger in the BMW sustained serious injuries and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the BMW remained at the scene and spoke with officers, stating that he had been attempting to move the car to the shoulder due to a flat tire when the tractor-trailer collided with the vehicle.
The semi-truck driver also suffered injuries in the crash. Responders at the site indicated that these injuries were not considered life-threatening, but the driver nonetheless received care at the scene. Authorities have not released further details regarding the exact extent of either individual's injuries or whether additional medical follow-up was required.
Due to the location of the collision and the extent of the damage, the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Metro Nashville Police Department closed Interstate 24 East near Briley Parkway to allow emergency access and to protect the safety of motorists passing through the area. Traffic was directed off the interstate at Briley Parkway and rerouted back onto Interstate 24 at Antioch Pike. The closure remained in place for several hours as crews cleared debris, inspected the roadway, and coordinated the removal of the vehicles.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision remains underway. Authorities have not yet announced whether any citations will be issued or whether outside factors, such as visibility, speed, or lane positioning, played a role. Further updates are expected as investigators complete their review of the crash scene and related reports.
We extend our best wishes to the injured passenger and driver and hope both make a full and steady recovery.
Truck Accidents in Tennessee
Crashes involving tractor-trailers often lead to significant disruptions and serious injuries, especially when smaller passenger vehicles are struck. Commercial trucks carry substantial weight, and even at moderate speeds, the force of impact can cause major vehicle damage and traumatic harm to occupants. Interstates such as Interstate 24 see a steady mix of freight traffic and commuter vehicles, which can increase risk in overnight and early-morning hours when motorists may be fatigued and visibility may be reduced.
Several common factors contribute to tractor-trailer crashes on Tennessee highways. These include sudden slowdowns, disabled vehicles on road shoulders, distracted driving, driver fatigue, and difficulty stopping due to a truck's longer braking distance.
Mechanical problems, including tire failures, can also create dangerous conditions for passenger cars trying to exit travel lanes safely. When a vehicle experiences an issue such as a flat tire on an active interstate, the situation becomes time-sensitive, and any delay in recognition by nearby drivers can lead to severe outcomes.
After a truck-related crash, victims often face complex medical and financial challenges. Serious injuries may require emergency care, rehabilitation, and ongoing monitoring, while insurance issues can become complicated when commercial carriers are involved.
In situations where negligence may be suspected, injured parties sometimes seek legal guidance to understand liability, preserve evidence, and pursue compensation for medical costs, lost income, and related damages.
