Powell, TN (June 14, 2025) – A serious crash in Powell left one man dead and two others hurt on June 13. Authorities with the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle accident just off Interstate 75 near East Emory Road and Barnett Way in Knox County.
The collision happened when 85-year-old Margaret Cain was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, attempting to enter East Emory Road from Barnett Way. At the same time, 43-year-old Jessica Lee Davis-Harvey was traveling east on East Emory Road in a 2019 Toyota 4Runner. As Margaret pulled into traffic, she failed to yield the right of way and struck Davis-Harvey's SUV.
The impact caused Davis-Harvey's vehicle to spin out of control before coming to a stop in the roadway. Tragically, 85-year-old Howard Cain, the passenger in Margaret's vehicle, suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead.
Both Margaret and Jessica were injured and transported from the scene. No details about the severity of their injuries have been released. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, no charges have been filed at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
Car Accidents in Tennessee

Motor vehicle accidents in Tennessee occur daily and continue to affect families throughout the state. According to recent statistics, thousands of crashes are reported across the state each year, with many leading to serious injuries or fatalities. Urban and rural areas alike see their share of collisions due to high traffic volume, road conditions, and other factors.
Here are some key reasons why accidents like these often result in injury or loss:
- Failure to Yield the Right of Way: This is a leading contributor to serious crashes. Drivers not yielding during merges or while entering busy roads often cause high-impact collisions. These types of errors are particularly dangerous at intersections and highway ramps, where traffic flows at higher speeds and reaction times are reduced.
- Elderly Drivers and Age-Related Risk Factors: Age can affect a person's reaction time, vision, and judgment while driving. Elderly drivers are more vulnerable to crashes, and injuries they sustain are often more severe. Additional safety training and regular checkups can help ensure they remain safe on the road.
- Intersection Collisions: Accidents at intersections are commonly caused by misjudging the distance or speed of oncoming traffic. These crashes are especially dangerous when one vehicle is attempting to cross or turn in front of another that has the right of way. This type of accident often leads to T-bone or side-impact collisions.
- Lack of Traffic Signals or Sign Visibility: Poorly marked intersections or obstructed signs contribute to driver confusion. Without clear signage, it becomes more difficult to make informed decisions when navigating busy roadways, especially for drivers unfamiliar with the area.
