Sevierville, TN – Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-40 Involving Tractor-Trailers Leads to Injuries

Posted by Local Accidents | Sep 13, 2025 | 0 Comments

Sevierville, TN (September 13, 2025) – A serious collision involving multiple tractor-trailers and a passenger vehicle caused significant disruption on Interstate 40 East near mile marker 409 on Wednesday evening, September 10. The incident, which occurred around 8 p.m., led to closures lasting more than six hours and resulted in both injuries and criminal charges.

According to the Sevierville Police Department (SPD), the crash involved three tractor-trailers and a 2025 Toyota Camry. Investigators determined that the Toyota initially struck one of the tractor-trailers, causing it and another truck traveling in the adjacent lane to veer into the median. During the sequence, the Toyota collided with an additional tractor-trailer and became lodged partially beneath the vehicle.

One of the tractor-trailers overturned in the median, leaving its driver trapped. Emergency crews extricated the driver, who was subsequently airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center by LifeStar air ambulance. The extent of his injuries has not yet been disclosed.

SPD reported that the driver of the Toyota, identified as Jonathan Negrete-Toledo, 20, of Dandridge, was charged with underage driving while impaired and violation of Tennessee's implied consent law. A passenger in the vehicle, Victor Rodriguez Campos, 20, of White Pine, was also charged with underage alcohol consumption.

The interstate was fully or partially closed for several hours as authorities investigated and cleared the crash scene. Traffic has since resumed normal flow.

Our thoughts are with the injured truck driver, and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Tractor-Trailer Collisions and Their Far-Reaching Consequences

Crashes involving tractor-trailers, such as the one in Sevierville, often result in severe damage and extended road closures due to the size and weight of the vehicles involved. Unlike standard passenger vehicle collisions, tractor-trailer crashes pose heightened risks of serious injuries, fatalities, and significant property damage. The scale of such accidents often requires extensive emergency response efforts and prolonged investigations.

Several common factors can contribute to tractor-trailer accidents, including:

  • Driver impairment – alcohol, drugs, or fatigue significantly affects judgment and reaction times.

  • Vehicle condition – mechanical failures, particularly in large trucks, can create hazardous situations.

  • Traffic violations – improper lane changes or following too closely can escalate quickly into major collisions.

  • Environmental conditions – weather and roadway hazards may amplify risks for vehicles of this size.

The aftermath of tractor-trailer crashes extends beyond those directly injured. Road closures can disrupt regional traffic for hours, leading to economic losses, delays in freight transport, and public safety concerns. For victims and their families, the physical, financial, and emotional tolls are substantial, often requiring long-term recovery and legal intervention.

When criminal charges accompany a crash, as in this case, victims may have additional grounds for pursuing compensation. Those injured may be entitled to financial recovery for medical bills, lost income, and other damages caused by negligence or unlawful conduct. Wrongful actions, such as driving under the influence, can increase liability and create significant legal consequences for at-fault parties.

Families and injured individuals often benefit from consulting legal professionals who can guide them through the complexities of insurance claims and litigation. Effective legal representation ensures that responsible parties are held accountable and that victims receive the compensation necessary to address both immediate and long-term needs.
