Sullivan County, TN (September 20, 2025) – A serious traffic accident occurred on Friday evening, September 19, on Interstate 81 in Sullivan County, leaving two individuals hospitalized with severe injuries.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reported the crash around 7:10 p.m. near mile marker 54.6 on the southbound lanes of Interstate 81. According to investigators, a Cadillac XT4 was slowing in the right lane as a Ford F-250 decelerated in the left lane beside it. The Ford attempted to merge into the right lane, sideswiping the Cadillac in the process.

After the impact, the Ford veered onto the grass shoulder, overturned onto its roof, and eventually came to rest upright on all four wheels. Meanwhile, the Cadillac traveled into the grass median following the collision.

Emergency crews responded quickly, and the Ford's driver and passenger were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Officials confirmed that all parties involved were properly restrained by seatbelts at the time of the crash. No charges have been filed in connection with the incident, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol continues its investigation.
